My photograph of the world's oldest known horse saddle, discovered in a 2,700-year-old woman's grave in northwest China, was featured in National Geographic's History Magazine. The saddle, made of leather and stuffed with straw and animal hair, challenges assumptions about early saddle use and highlights the role of women in ancient pastoral societies.
